Rylee’s ACE

Rylee’s ACE
Grand Rapids and Walker, MI

Fuller and Michigan: Rylee’s ACE Hardware was frustrated with a contractor provided design of their new mega store. This new store was to be the epicenter of her soon to be six stores in the Grand Rapids area and they wanted to send a message to her customers that said, “local, neighborhood store with national appeal, products and services.” We were introduced as the “retail design experts” with an understanding of the “customer experience”.

When the project was complete, we got a note from the owner that we hope is the experience of all our customers: “From picking exterior brick colors, to selecting interior finishes, designing signage and consulting on layouts and merchandising, Rylee’s ACE got an ROI working with r.o.i. Design.”

In 2017, the store went through a refresh. r.o.i. Design created a new cash out experience, selected and placed new paint colors and designed a new signage program.

Fulton: When they decided they wanted to open up a new location on the city’s West Side, they came to us for the design of the new building. r.o.i. Design also created the marketing campaign “The New Store in 49504” designing postcards, banners, stickers, etc. and getting the word out about their new location.
Walker: The Walker location needed to “come along” in appeal and style and r.o.i. Design provided storefront design, a design for the cash out experience as well as provided and placed new paint colors.

Kennedy Floral

Kennedy Floral
Cascade, MI

Expanding and remodeling a store is an opportunity not only to communicate your brand but to create new habits and disciplines in the sales team. Kennedy’s Flowers & Gifts in Forest Hills, Cascade MI took on the challenge in 2013.

This family business, owned by Lori Haveman, enjoying more than 20 years in the floral and gift business, decided to take over neighboring tenant space in their building to expand their store.
They turned to their architect, Don Smalligan who referred r.o.i. Design, experienced retail designers.

While the overall appeal of the new store is light, bright, clean and clear, the real success was a new layout and managing the customer’s experience. Creating definitive departments and dedicated space for merchandise not only helped the customer, it enabled Kennedy’s to monitor inventory much easier.
The discipline of eliminating clutter and opening up views in a store that has so many SKU’s will continue to be the goal for operations.

Hope College Bookstore

Hope College Bookstore

Hope College Bookstore
Holland, MI

Hope College is committed to building community through retail. Their newly renovated bookstore is conveniently located next to the Bultman Student Center on campus inside the DeWitt Cultural Center. Hope College engaged r.o.i. Design to assist them in upgrading their appearance and “retail game”.

r.o.i. Design helped them rethink their store fixture plan and flow, designing a new cash out experience, and added color and texture to the space. The new Bultman Student Center construction took away 20% of the store floor space to allow for new connecting hallways between buildings, but through the wizardry of design, Hope College 2017-2018 returning customers thought the store got bigger!

GVSU Laker Store

GVSU Laker Store

GVSU Laker Store
Grand Valley State University
Allendale, MI

The retail store on the Grand Valley State University Allendale Campus is one of a handful of non-academic environments and planning the new GVSU Laker Store meant looking at its design in a way that held the GVSU brand but was totally retail.

Working for Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber (A&E) and Pioneer Construction, r.o.i. Design recommended finishes and details that would appeal to the students, their families and the alumni of this growing university.

With the advance in technology and electronic books, university stores are no longer just “book” stores but a variety of stores within stores. The Laker Store has fashion apparel, athletic wear, gifts, supplies, technology, supplies and books; and those areas were given different finishes to help cue the shopper.

r.o.i. design wanted shoppers to have the “Laker” experience and with the support of the entire design team we are very proud of some key branded details.

  • Custom floor tile that has the 30 international symbols of academic departments.
  • Custom wallcovering that uses a motif from the first GVSU course catalog with an array of GVSU initials.
  • The 300 banners are intended to represent a water wave, in reference to the Laker brand.
  • A 20-foot x 16-foot video wall that broadcasts real-time events from campus activities or video loops that show highlights of student life.

The LakerStore opened April 2015 and continues to grow into the possibilities that the space provides.

Fox Acura

Fox Acura

Fox Acura
Grand Rapids, MI

Acura has high standards for the interiors of their sales showrooms and create yearly design specifications. Triangle Associates was engaged by Fox Motors to review the specifications to see if there was any opportunity to create the same look at a savings. Triangle Associates used r.o.i. Design for the design of their own offices and experienced how r.o.i. resourced products and wanted that same help for the Acura project.
r.o.i. Design worked with the Acura designers and Triangle Associate; found similar products and materials to accomplish the interior design without sacrificing the look or the budget.
