This world-class die casting company has created parts for the automotive and motorcycle industries since 1979. Tom and Kurt Wilkerson are the second generations of Wilkast owners and they saw the need for facility and tooling expansion to meet the growing demand for their services.

First Companies introduced r.o.i. Design to the Wilkersons, and along with Dixon Architecture we were engaged to design a new building that would house the corporate office and expanded plant.

Like most manufacturers, their processes create dust and debris, so the offices had to be planned using materials that were durable and cleanable. To aid in the effort, the Wilkersons decided to borrow from a ranch-lodge style using rustic woods and natural stone throughout. The floors are all concrete and the corridors and conference rooms have wood panels. An elkhorn chandelier greets you in the lobby. The overall feel is very welcoming, and the shiny Harley Davidson in the vestibule is a nice touch.

Total Fire Protection

5385 Patterson Ave SE Suite C
Grand Rapids, MI 49512

Most of the new buildings that r.o.i. Design has designed have fire suppression systems installed. It was not until First Companies introduced us to the Goossens at Total Fire Protection that we understood how technical and innovative fire suppression is!

Working with Dixon Architecture, we worked through space planning and lighting design for Total Fire Protection’s new office. The ceiling plan offered some opportunities for creativity in lighting and sound. The floor plan gave this group a lot more opportunities for shared and collaborative spaces that they were missing in their old office.

The interior finishes are straightforward and clean, with the carpet patterns offering a lot of interest. This is especially true in the large conference room where we incorporated hexagon carpet tiles. Other features we like include the lobby lighting, the open staircase, the interior brick walls, the second-floor break room/bar, the use of staggered 2×4 ceiling tiles, and the executive patio tile treatment.

German Auto Service

2189 Avastar Pkwy Suite A
Grand Rapids, MI 49544

German Auto Service was located just down the street from r.o.i. Design for as long as we’ve been on Front Avenue. With the growth their business has seen in recent years, owners Ben and Joe Zeeuw decided it was time to expand. Rather than adding on to the limited space of their existing lot, they decided to build new.

German Auto reached out to Pinnacle Construction, which is also located on Front Avenue, to be the general contractor on this project. Then they contacted r.o.i. Design to design the interiors. Marianne Martz from our office oversaw the design.

The new building is located near the intersection of Alpine Avenue and Ann Street on Avastar Parkway. The team at German Auto wanted to create a space that embraces the muscular architecture of a fully equipped service garage. The intent was not to hide the shop “out back”. From the lobby, customers have a front-row seat to see the service team at work. The customer service area offers a large open floor plan with a large-scale visually striking graphic. Thanks to the design concept, the new facility feels engaging and bright.

DLN Integrated Systems was introduced to r.o.i. Design through First Companies along with architect Ken Dixon of Dixon Architecture.

DLN’s growth is a result of their commitment to their customers, creating customized solutions for material handling and automation.  That commitment and attitude was also seen through their process of interior design of their offices: clear, consistent, simple, and innovative.

r.o.i. Design worked with DLN to select interior finishes and to make recommendations for lighting design and lighting fixtures. We teamed up with their furniture providers to coordinate plans and finishes.

The result is a space that is industrial yet engaging with the use of wood and warm colors. We are the proudest of our influence on the lighting design and selection and design of the wood walls.

Burco, Inc. is an amazing company that supplies automotive mirrors for new and after-market. This multi-generation business is an entrepreneurial inspiration. It’s reflective of the business creativity in West Michigan, but more specifically of their corporation.

We met the owners, Mike and Lisa Mervenne, through an introduction by West Michigan Office Interiors. Our year-long relationship of designing and budgeting resulted in a great remodel thanks to Erhardt Construction and Joe Kuhn. The project was completed early this year.

The remodel included more open office areas, an expanded break room, more efficient office layouts, and branded décor. Building on their amazing brand, r.o.i. Design developed an interior design scheme that reflects their brand colors, culture, and needs.

In addition to interior design, we were able to provide graphic design for custom branded décor, as well as providing new furnishings for their break room.
