Dooge Veneer has remodeled and expanded their space over a decade.

The scope of the 2009 remodel included rethinking the showroom by creating more than one customer friendly space. The entry reception area had to complement their customer’s high-end designs using their veneers.

Their education area didn’t have many walls, so millwork had to be designed to provide a place for “show and tell”. Their sample and veneer inspection area that was formerly thought of as “back of house” was now part of the customer experience and brought up to their expectation with lighting and finishes. In addition to the public areas of the space, the private and open office areas were upgraded with new finishes and lighting.

To address the need for more office space and a more flexible showroom, Dooge remodeled part of their warehouse to create a large sample space, a large conference room and open office environment in 2017

They were also hoping they could avoid putting a ceiling into the “warehouse” space, but rather find a way to create a more urban loft appearance exposing the ceiling structure and mechanical.

Key to the design was the creation of custom “office cubicles” that brought people together in an open office environment in custom millwork offices that showed off their veneers. The new “cubicles” use matched “rustic random” walnut veneer, recut walnut veneer and stainless-steel trim.

The new conference room allows for larger meetings while also creating a beautiful back drop to the open office with their new logo on a glass wall. Inside the conference room, r.o.i. designed inset panels in the drywall with FC Sapele wood and stainless-steel trim.

This project, like so many recently, we also assist in the actual execution of the remodel, offering select project management services.

This strip mall storefront space was previously occupied by a Biggby Coffee Shop.r.o.i. Design set out to transform the space into a modern Asian restaurant with an updated urban vibe. The interior features a wood wall made of reclaimed wood from shipping pallets. We also designed and had fabricated a custom communal table for the center of the space, which features the reclaimed pallet wood, along with shelves to display the various sauces they offer for sale. The color palette consisted of subdued grays that allowed the wood features and graphic signage to stand out.

We brought Pinnacle Construction to manage the remodel. Great Lakes West Foodservice Equipment Service to provide the kitchen equipment.

In addition to interior design, we took on the role of “owner’s advocate”. We oversaw the entire remodeling project, from leasing the space to upgrading utilities, and finally to promote the grand opening. We also designed the logo and signage.

St. Joseph, Michigan is just around the corner from Chicago, and at the turn of the last century, a resort town for residents of the Windy City. Edgewater Resources, a marina developer, decided to invest in their home town and to explore the business of hotel development on lake fronts.

Having their own in-house engineering and architecture, they reached out to r.o.i. Design for final phase of design, furnishings procurement.

Starting with their furniture plans and budgets, r.o.i. Design made space plans and product and product finish recommendations. We created bid documents, solicited bids for all furnishings, create documents for Edgewater Resources to execute and we managed receipt and placement of product.
Our favorite items of this project were the custom two-toned casegoods for the guest rooms and the soft seating for the bar.

The design team, which included Campus Dining, GVSU Facilities, Preferred Construction and r.o.i. Design, looked at the trends in college dining and the recent building projects on campus along with their customer’s preferences to create a design criterion that could be executed within the budget and timeline.

Each room received new flooring, new lighting, new millwork features, new paint accents and new furnishings that aligned with the “theme” of the room.

“Community Tables” were added to allow for larger groups to gather. Custom lighting enhanced the distinct look of each room.

The food line was enhanced with new equipment to allow Campus Dining the option to offer more variety in their menu.

Breweries and their eateries often want their space to feel like their guests are joining them in the warehouse while they are brewing beer. But Gravel Bottom Brewery Ada, MI had to move to a brand-new storefront to allow for the downtown Ada development project to put in a street.

First Companies’ Craig Schroeder called r.o.i. Design looking for design help to make the new space feel more like a brewery warehouse.

Owner Matt Michiels really liked his existing space and was hoping to re-create the look and feel. To r.o.i. Design that meant a warm paint scheme, industrial warehouse lights, reclaimed wood and vintage looking brick. We asked them to hang used wood pallets from the ceiling to add texture and hide some acoustic treatment.

Matt added an amazing concrete bar top to his new bar, as well as some incredible beer.
