Grand Rapids, MI 49525

Jacob Miller, DDS had purchased a property that offered better street exposure and room for his growing dental practice. The new space allowed for an adequate waiting area, consult room, administrative spaces, six to seven operatories, Pan-Ceph X-Ray, storage, employee entrance, lockers, and a breakroom. But that meant it need to be remodeled.

With the help from r.o.i Design, the new interiors reflect a space that is natural and modern. We set out to make the office distinctly welcoming, crisp, and clean. We utilized contrasting light and dark paint colors, darker wood floors, wallcovering, stone accents and a custom reception desk. The environment is ideal for any patient.

In addition, r.o.i Design was able to provide the new lobby furniture. The pieces play well with the interior finishes that we specified, making the space very cohesive.

901 Michigan St NE
Grand Rapids, MI 49503

Dr. Nick Ritzema and his team have a vision for a more holistic practice where their dental patients’ complete health is considered. That meant they needed a space that included training space as well as enough room for growth. With the help of First Companies, they identified a building to purchase and renovate. First Companies called on r.o.i Design to help with creating a loft-like space that paid homage to the Grand Rapids history as the “Furniture City”.

Like the old furniture manufacturing buildings in Grand Rapids, the interiors have wood columns and beams, exposed brick, interior glazing, and vinyl flooring that resembles concrete floors. The space is warm, inviting, and offers a fresh take on an industrial loft. Some fun elements are the modular carpet tiles with metallic backings, hand stained cement blocks in the staff break area island face, herringbone wood planks in the exam rooms, and black conduit on the ceilings to connect the lighting.

r.o.i. Design provided lobby furniture that supported the industrial loft feel and worked with Kentwood Office Furniture, who provided the office furniture.

West Michigan Dermatology – Holland

West Michigan Dermatology – Holland

West Michigan Dermatology Holland Office

3290 N. Wellness Dr., Building D
Holland, MI 49424

West Michigan Dermatology’s Holland office was relocated in November of 2018. While the move was just across the street, the new space was greatly refreshed. The desire for a residential cottage look resulted in an interior that includes painted millwork, decorative light fixtures as well as a feature stone wall. The new furnishings also reflected a feeling of hospitality. All clinic and exam areas were designed for comfort and medical excellence.

The layout gave West Michigan Dermatology the convenience of exam rooms with two doors. One allows patients to enter from the lobby side, and the other for staff to enter from the clinical side.  With a variety of procedures from skin care to surgery, this layout fosters privacy and a professional separation for the maximum comfort of patients.

We acknowledge the partnership of First Companies (design lead and construction management) and Jon Blair of r2Design (architecture and design). This same team leads the effort to relocate West Michigan Dermatology’s Grandville office in 2019.

9039 N Rodgers Dr SE #4
Caledonia, MI 49316

Dr. Brent Medema’s attention to detail isn’t only focused on his patients’ teeth.

r.o.i. Design was introduced to Medema Endodontics through First Companies, who engaged us to design the interior of this space, which they then built-out and delivered in 2018. From that introduction we found a client who was interested in every aspect of the design, scrutinizing finishes and decisions, resulting in a wonderful product.

The clean look supports the surgical nature of the practice but isn’t so clinical that it ignores patient comforts.

Favorite details of the design include the lobby and reception ceiling and lighting details, the exam room corridor wall, and ceiling accent insets, as well as the overall color scheme.

Medema Endodontics is an expert practice with a focus on patient care, medical technology and continuous learning and practice improvements. For more about Medema Endodontics, medemaendo.com.

Wolverine Dermatology

1673 Gezon Pkwy SW
Wyoming, MI 49519

After 16 years of service in the United States Air Force, Dr. Ryan Freeland returned home to Michigan to open a dermatology practice with his sister, Kristen Tungate, as Practice Manager. Kristen leveraged Ryan’s love of the University of Michigan to influence his decision to name the practice Wolverine Dermatology and to use maize and blue as the basis for interior design.

The 7,500 square foot office was designed not only to reflect Dr. Freeland’s love of U of M but the state of Michigan as well. The Michigan-themed design includes an upscale lake house look complete with crisp white trim and nautical light fixtures. Other items include a stone wall inspired by Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and accents of actual Michigan Petoskey Stones. The site’s landscaping includes the Michigan State Tree, Eastern White Pines, and Michigan’s State Flower, Blossoming Apple Trees.

The architectural design was heavily influenced by bringing natural light through the entire space. This made for some interesting opportunities in ceiling and lighting details, including floating ceiling planes in the lobby and skylights in the staff clinical den.
